Beauty Lessons Learned from Mum

Mother’s Day is coming, and it’s not only a time to celebrate our mothers, but also to reflect on how much they’ve taught us, both directly and indirectly. Mum’s beauty lessons come from a lifetime of experience, so we need to listen. From getting enough sleep and drinking eight glasses of water a day to ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS using sunscreen, mom knows what she’s talking about. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums!

Keep Up with Sleep & Sunscreen

Mum knows best. She knows that getting at least eight hours of beauty sleep is essential to waking up looking refreshed. Our immune cells are repaired during sleep, so not only is it good for our health, but also good for our skin. Remember waking up after only 5-6 hours of sleep and seeing the lines under your eyes appear more prominent? Not to mention, overall puffiness and dark undereye circles too! Next time you want to stay up until 3am bingeing the latest Netflix show, remember mum!

Another thing mum learned over the years: Never skimp on sunscreen! Why? Because sun damage is the top reason for premature aging. Luckily, though, we can prevent it with diligent use of sunscreen. Image Skincare’s PREVENTION+ daily matte moisturizer is a great choice because it protects while also keeping skin matte, so you don’t get that dreaded shine that makes you look greasy. Apply liberally every morning 15 minutes before sun exposure and reapply every two hours.

Don’t Pick at Your Skin

Sigh. This is a hard one for most of us. There’s something satisfying about popping that pimple or picking at that blackhead. But what does that achieve? A bigger, more inflamed pimple and sometimes even a scar! Mum always told us, “Don’t pick at your face! You’ll make it worse!” We didn’t always listen, and we lived to regret it. Next time you get a pimple or spot a blackhead, imagine mum scolding you and resist the urge.

Establish Your Skincare Routine

And stick to it! There’s no point in cleansing and moisturizing if you only do it sporadically. Skincare routines are meant to be done daily and with attention to detail. Even if it’s been a long day and you’re so tired you want to just fall into bed, remember mom and drag yourself to the bathroom and do every step of your routine. If you’re so tired you can’t even keep your eyes open, at least do the basics, like taking off your makeup and applying your night cream. Our Vital C hydrating repair crème is a great choice for a moisturizer that well and truly performs. It contains a blend of hyaluronic acid, ceramides and vitamins. Vitamin C is one of the key ingredients that will help with visible brightening and can help boost the look of collagen-deprived skin. This cream will help minimize signs of aging, but remember: you have to use it diligently.

Don’t Be Frugal About Your Face

Once again, mum knows best. There’s a lot we can (and should!) be frugal about it, but when it comes to your face, you get what you pay for. Higher-quality creams will always be more expensive. They don’t have to break the bank necessarily, but they are worth the higher price tag because they have more key ingredients in higher concentrations. This can make all the difference in your skin. Image Skincare’s AGELESS total repair crème has key ingredients including glycolic acid and time-encapsulated retinol to help fight the visible signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles. Glycolic acid and retinol are other top ingredients that can help make skin look firmer and bouncier. Together, they can give your skin a more youthful appearance.

Bottom Line: Listen to mum! She knows what she’s talking about.
