3 Common Acne Mistakes Everyone Makes

In honour of Acne Awareness Month this June, we are shining a spotlight on acne, and the common mistakes most people make when trying to treat this reddening, painful, and inflamed skin concern.

Whether your blemishes pop up rarely, or you are suffering from constant appearances of unwarranted acne spots, we can all say for certain that they are better banished from our face for good.

Acne is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder that affects women and men of all ages. In fact, 85% Australians will develop acne during their life, with approximately 5% experiencing severe acne.

So, if you have seemingly tried every solution under the sun to get rid of your acne, still to no avail, here are the most common mistakes that you could be making.

  1. Over cleansing can make your skin oilier - The common foaming formulas that come with the territory of acne, are specifically designed to help treat acne yes, but more often than not can dry your face out too much, stripping your skin of the essential (and natural) oils that actually help balance your skin's sebum production. A too dry face will cause your skin to overcompensate, and produce more sebum and excess oil, and you are back to square one. We recommend to best attack acne at the source, to alternate our Clear Cell Salicylic Gel Cleanser with the Ormedic Gel Cleanser every 2 or 3 days to give your skin the balance and hydration it needs.
  2. Look at your diet to help treat acne - Fighting off acne appearances on your skin from the surface is not always a guarantee that this will work. It is also important to look from within. Processed foods, saturated fats and sugar are acne-causing enemy number one, and eating too much of these can aggravate the skin condition. Ensure your diet is full of nutrients needed to balance sebum production for healthy skin.
  3. Feeling a bit picky? - While squeezing and popping pimples to your heart's content can be a very satisfying feeling, you may be doing much more harm to your skin than good. Not only does taking care of your pimples yourself lead to scarring on the skin, popping what's inside, which may land on your surrounding skin, can cause infections! Inflammation can be delivered deeper into the skin when aggravating the skin surrounding the blemish, eventually spreading the infection.

When treating acne on the surface, we recommend using our Clear Cell range. Clear Cell is a highly effective acne skin care line that utilises the most effective acne fighting ingredients and potent anti-inflammatory botanicals. Fight acne, reduce inflammation, eliminate excess oil and purify skin now.
